3 Reasons To Drink Water

Water is such an important part of our overall well-being. From showering, laundry, doing the dishes, etc., yet we neglect to drink it. We have all mastered drinking our morning coffee, or our mid day pick me up with caffeine filled drinks so why do we not drink water? The thing the keeps us living. Don’t get me wrong though, I live for my morning coffee and love to drink something besides water during the day but I make it a goal for myself to drink 100 oz of water a day. It’s a game I like to play with myself so that I make sure I am at least getting 64 oz in a day. Although there are hundreds of reasons why we should drink water, these three reasons are my personal favorites.

  1. Increased Energy

When your body is dehydrated it becomes fatigued because the flow of oxygen in your body is working harder which makes you more tired and less alert. Think of your body like a car. It can run all day long, but if you don’t fill it up with gas then you will become stranded on the side of the road. When your body feels slow and sluggish, grab some water. Not many people believe that water can help you fight fatigue because it’s not infused with 300mg of caffeine, but in fact if your cells do not maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes then they can shrivel.

2. Beautiful Skin

Did you know that your skin contains plenty of water, and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss? Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and is mostly made up of water. Dehydrated skin looks dry, wrinkled, flakey, and you are more prone to aging. Who doesn’t want their skin smooth and glowing? I used to be horrible about drinking water, and some days would go by where I was only intaking about 15 oz throughout the day. My skin was so dry and no pill or acne cream was helping. Once I started implanting the “drink half your body weight in oz” rule into my everyday routine, I instantly saw results. Water helps flush out the toxins and shrinks your pores, making them less likely to clog.

3. Hunger Control

Often times throughout the day we think that we are hungry, so we eat. But did you know that if you are not drinking enough water then your body can send mixed signals to your brain that your hungry, when in fact you are just thirsty? A trick that I started doing for myself is if I think that I am hungry, I will drink a glass of water first. If I still feel hungry after that then I will get a snack. Not only does this trick help with not over eating, but it also helps me make sure that I am getting in my daily intake of water. Every glass of water helps!
